Why PoopFish?

This is my first official post for my blog PoopFish. Having such a different and unusual name I feel I owe an explanation for my name choice or at least how it came into being.

With that said, I will start from the beginning.

Each morning I wake up at 6:20 a.m. to walk the big dog (90 lb black lab). There is a sequence that follows and for the most part I don’t deviate from.

My alarm sounds and I sleepily roll over to turn it off with my left hand (I am right handed by the way). My dog, Isaac, upon hearing the alarm jumps up and runs to my side of the bed with his tail wagging and hitting every piece of furniture within its reach. I get up and quickly navigate the dark bedroom, the hall, and then to my office where my walking clothes reside. I grope for the light switch and successfully turn on the light. I then dress quickly and as warmly as possible, since it is freaking cold outside. Isaac does his best not to hinder me, but his excitement and nose tend to get the best of him.

We both head down stairs where I have to blindly walk through a field of stacked boxes and dogs toys. After I find the kitchen light, I put on my special walking shoes, while Isaac makes his presence known by standing on my shoes and getting his face as close as possible to mine. Once my shoelaces are tight and tucked in, I grab the flash light by the TV and head to directly to the fridge for the delicious pork, beef, and turkey hotdog bits (dog treats).

My next destination is over by our table we have a small nook of sorts that holds everything pertaining to the big dog and some of my walking gear. Here I outfit myself with a beanie, jacket, a reflective wristband, an extra light, and the dog leash with the gentle leader attached (a special dog walking device). I get Isaac outfitted with the gentle leader and we head to the door. We do a little training where he waits patiently as I head out the door first and then give him the OK to follow.

Isaacs first course of action once outside is to mark something or in general terms is to pee on a bush. After that we proceed on the walk. On our general route there is a lot of sniffing, some marking, alert stances for phantom squirrels and cats, some training, and the occasional scratch.

By now I am fully awake and my brain starts to begin the mental processes that result in a name like PoopFish. For no apparent reason on this particular morning I was thinking of fish, gold fish to be more exact. It was a large gold fish with orange scales blowing bubbles from its mouth. As I watch each bubble float up the surface of the water in my imagination it occurred to me that if a fish were pooping the poop would float downwards. So naturally I added the extra element and the fish was now blowing bubbles and pooping at the same time. It made for such and interesting image I laughed aloud.

Logically the next course of action was to name my imaginary bubble blowing/pooping gold fish. I nicknamed my dog “piglador” for the very simple reason that he snorts like a pig sometimes and he is a Labrador. Using my flawless naming convention I named the gold fish, “PoopFish.”

It wasn’t until I had hung out with my friends that I had the brilliant idea to start this blog called “PoopFish.” The original idea was to start this blog as a gossip sight, because I think gossip is generally poop, becuase it is passed on by word of mouth. However the idea of spewing gossip is a less than favorable idea to me. So decided to make this blog about all the random crap in my head and my life. What I am really saying is that I am the “PoopFish,” even though my user name is “blksquirrel.“ Yeah I know…the name “blksquirrel” is another story for another time.

So until the next post, I will see you later (not literally).

About blksquirrel

Hello all. I initially started this little blog to write about interesting adventures my friends and I embarked on. I am not talking about the day-to-day stuff that friends regularly do. The topics I wanted to cover were the kind of stories that got told year after year. However, this was not to be for this little blog. It is really a compilation of odd ball thoughts and at times scenarios which involve friends. I don't post often or on any regular schedule. I post something when the spirit moves me and I am compelled to write what ever that is rattling around in my head. I don't look to have a following. I just hope that if someone stumbles onto this blog and happens to read a post, they have a little chuckle due to my peculiar musings.

What an odd person you are. I enjoy your writing, it seems educational but also silly– a trait I admire. I am excited to see where this blog will lead to; Regardless, you have a reader.

Thanks. My wife says I am odd as well. Maybe I am revealing too much, but this is my first blog. So for a while each post will be a work in progress. I am glad though that your interest is peaked and I hope I do not let you down.
